Skye’s Story

We’ve Have been through hell & back with our Baby On 30th September our 4 week old baby fell sick with high temp, refused bottles, mottled skin, vomiting & floppy like a rag doll we arrived at temple street to be told she has a “cold/viral infection” that she would be fine to go home after some fluids we knew ourselves that it was more than that, we were told we’re just “young concerned parents” & our daughter would be fine Skye then went onto receive 2 lumbar punctures, we pushed for her blood work and refused to go home without them all signs pointed to Meningitis/Sepsis her results were negative for Meningitis so we pushed for her bloodwork to see if it was Sepsis.

I stayed with Skye that night were multiple tests were done, still no answers the next morning the infectious disease department came running in the door at 7 in the morning with multiple doctors picked Skye up and she was just lifeless they started giving her antibiotics again and told me that they found high traces of Group B Strep infection (GBS) in her system since she was born that should’ve been treated with antibiotics when she was born but they weren’t given to her in the hospital so our baby lived 4 weeks of her life unwell & it eventually led to sepsis cause it was left untreated all the signs/posters on the wall of temple street hospital for Sepsis became a reality for us never thought it would happen us we were  blessed as Sepsis can kill you within 12 hours & Skye was nearly at that mark someone was watching over us & now we have a healthy 1 year old.

My advice I can give to you is ask to be tested for GBS when giving birth as it’s not always tested & be aware that any infection can lead to Sepsis Just ask “Could it be Sepsis ? Kian was a friend Seàn Hughes & I myself have been to a lot of the campaigns raising awareness if it wasn’t for joe and Karen’s campaign awareness our outcome today would’ve been very different so thank you Please be aware of the signs and symptoms as you never know who’s life you could save❤️
